What is StumbleUpon?
StumbleUpon
is a social bookmarking site with one difference - it makes use of a toolbar
that you install on you browser. When you find a site you like, you stumble
it using the thumbs up icon on the toolbar. This then allows other members to
discover the site.

The StumbleUpon toolbar allows users to click on a "Stumble" button, which
then loads a random page that has been stumbled on the users browser. They can
then rate the site and the sites with more stumbles are shown to a greater
proportion of StumbleUpon users.

What is a "Stumble Exchange"?
Webmasters have realized the potential of StumbleUpon as a marketing
tool and therefore have started to organize "Stumble Exchanges", which
means that they stumble each others sites to gain traffic and exposure
for their sites.

What does stumbleXchange do?
Stumble Exchanges started life on webmaster forums such as DigitalPoint.
A member would list their site and profile and ask people to add them as
friends and stumble their site. In return they would return the favor.
As many people participated on these threads it quickly became troublesome
to keep track of who you have stumbled, who you have to stumble etc... and this
is how stumbleXchange came about.
stumbleXchange allows webmasters to keep track of what is happening. It provides
the following features:
- Tracking to prevent you from being asked to stumble the same site twice.
- A unique reputation system that allows you to be rewarded for being active
on stumbleXchange.
- A reports page that allows you to view the number of completed stumble
exchanges, the number of stumble exchanges that are incomplete, and your reputation
points.
- A "Hide Link" option to allow you to filter out the spammy sites.

Isn't this against StumbleUpon's ToS?
A member from DP contacted the Co-Founder of StumbleUpon to ask if this
site is ok with them and they said that although it is against their ToS,
it is ok with them for the moment.
For this reason we at stumbleXchange will be working hard to prevent
any spammy sites from being listed on our site to ensure that this service
assists StumbleUpon instead of impeding it.

Please explain each section of the site
Below are quick explanations of what each section of the stumbleXchange site
do:
- userCP - This is where you access the user control panel. Here you
can edit your details, such as StumbleUpon username, the url of the site you
want others to stumble, your avatar, and a comment that will appear on your
profile.
- Stumble - This is where other peoples sites will appear. Each time
this page is loaded you are shown 10 random sites to stumble. Please read
"How do I correctly stumble someone" for the
correct procedure for stumbling other members on stumbleXchange.
- Waiting - The sites of people who have stumbled your site will
appear in this section.
- Reports - A self-explanatory reports section to view statistics of
your stumbleXchange account.
- Change Password - Used to change password...
- Logout - Click this when you want to logout...

How do I correctly stumble someone?
Stumbling someone on stumbleXchange can be done in a few easy steps:
- Click on the "Stumble" link on the navigation bar on the left-hand-side.
- You'll be shown a list of 10 sites like the screenshot below:

- Click on the StumbleUpon username of the site you'd like to add (1)
- You'll be redirected to their profile page on StumbleUpon. Here you'll
need to add them as your friend by clicking on the "Add as Friend" button
on the top right of the profile page.

- Now close this window and click on the URL of their site (2)
- Stumble their site by clicking on the thumbs up icon, "I like it!".

- Repeat for all the sites you like.
- Click on "Check" once you're done.
Stumbling sites in the "Waiting" section can be done in a similar manner.

None of the sites I stumble get verified!
This could be caused by 1 of several things. Please follow the following
steps to solve the problem:
- Go to your userCP and double check that your StumbleUpon username is correct.
In case you don't know what your SU username is, it's in the URL when you click
on "Pages" on your toolbar: http://YOUR SU USERNAME.stumbleupon.com/
- Go to your StumbleUpon profile page then click on "Preferences -> Settings" and
check that it is set to "Show all favorites" or "Show only non-adult favorites".
- Sometimes it takes a little time for the links to be put on your StumbleUpon page.
Try waiting for a little bit and refreshing the "Check" page.

I've stumbled a site before but it's not verifying!
This can happen if you stumble a page and didn't verify it on stumbleXchange.
This could be due to the fact you've seen the site before and stumbled it, or
maybe you didn't click "Check" after stumbling their site.
To solve this problem unrate their site and rerate them. This can be
done by clicking on the green thumbsup icon so that it turns blue and
then reclicking it so it turns green again.
Now click on "Check" and the site should verify.

What do Reputation Points do?
Reputation Points, or RP, are a way of measuring how active a member
on stumbleXchange is. In short the higher the members RP the more active
they are and the more likely they are to stumble you back.
Your RP can be seen by going to the "Reports" section or after you
click on "Check" to verify your stumbles on the "Stumble" or "Waiting"
pages.
The site of members with 0 RP will not be shown in the "Stumble" section.

How do I gain/lose Reputation Points?
Reputation Points can be gained by giving stumbles. You also lose RP
each time people stumble your site. Currently these are the RP rates:
- Giving a Stumble : 1 RP
- Receiving a Stumble : -1 RP
- An Exchange of Stumbles : 3 RP
An exchange of stumbles means that they have stumbled you and you have
stumbled them.

How do I maximize the effectiveness?
The idea behind stumbleXchange is that people stumble each others sites
and help each other promote their site. However this does not mean that
any old site will receive stumbles.
You could do the following to help receive more stumbles:
- Submit quality sites - People are happier to stumble sites they actually
like.
- Stumble active members - Active members are much more likely to return
your stumble. Try and stumble members that have high RP.

How are you preventing spam?
Currently the only way of preventing spam is by allowing members to
hide spammy sites that they do not like. However in the future we plan
on implamenting a system by which spammy sites are automatically
deleted and banned after they receive X number of "Don't Show Again" votes.
Rest assured - this does not mean your account will be banned. It
is just your site.
